Abstract
The authors examined 24 (16 male and eight female) Japanese patients who had paranasal sinusitis associated with ophthalmic findings. The diagnosis was based on computed tomographic, surgical, and histopathologic results. The patients ranged in age from 13 to 85 years (mean, 44 years). Lid edema, chemosis, and ocular and periocular pain occurred in about one half of the patients. Four patients had proptosis, seven patients had anterior sinusitis and epiphora, two had diplopia, two patients with posterior paranasal sinus involvement had decreased visual acuity, and three patients had abnormal visual fields.
