β2-Microglobulin and the Kidney: An Overview

Pages 99-103 | Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Abstract

β2 microglobulin is a potentially amyloidogenic low molecular weight protein. Increased serum levels are seen in renal diseases that decrease glomerular filtration and/or tubular reab-sorption, dialysis patients, chronic inflammatory diseases, and certain malignancies. Various aspects of β2 microglobulin metabolism and its accumulation in the kidney are addressed.
