Abstract
The DHSS's Scientific and Technical Services Branch is an organization believed to be unique to the United Kingdom. About half the staff work in Artificial Limb and Appliance Centres providing support services for disabled people. The other half are in DHSS headquarters working in a range of activities aimed at helping the National Health Service in its procurement of medical equipment and supplies as well as the support of the British medical product industry.
