Note from the editor and the publisher

In October, Inhalation Toxicology received a Letter to the Editor from Dr Finkelstein regarding “Asbestos fiber concentrations in the lungs of brake repair workers: commercial amphibole levels are predictive of chrysotile levels”, 23:681–688 by Marsh et al., that raised questions over data published in their paper. At the time of writing the Letter, Dr Finkelstein understood that a court order prevented the disclosure of details pertaining to Dr Roggli’s data sheets and therefore his Letter could not contain the minutiae of the cases he questioned. However, he communicated these to Marsh et al. when they were given the chance to respond to the Letter. Marsh et al. responded to these cases individually and in detail, and stated that a subsequent court order allowed for the release of the raw data. In light of this, we asked Dr Finkelstein to revise his letter to include the count sheet and the specific points he raised. Dr Finkelstein also added relevant information (paragraphs 10 and 11) that he had received in the meantime. We thought it to be in the interest of readers to publish the most up to date information. Marsh et al. have seen the revised Letter to the Editor and their complete response is published here.
