Abstract

A primigravid baboon pregnant with twins developed a spontaneous clinical syndrome with characteristics similar to human preeclampsia. Evidence of preeclampsia included increased mean blood pressure, the occurrence of proteinuria, a decrease in platelet count, and renal endotheliosis (i.e., glomerular capillary subendothelial deposits, mesangial fibrin deposition and expansion, and double-contouring of the glomerular basement membrane with endothelial cell swelling and lysis). These lesions occurred spontaneously and resolved postpartum.
