Very-Low-Calorie Diets. An Improved Procedure with Exclusive Loss of Fat, Very Good Acceptance and Positive Effects on Health

Pages 277-283 | Published online: 13 Jul 2009

Abstract

New knowledge about very-low-calorie diets (VLCD, 200–800 kCal/24 h) has now made it possible to use VLCD for weight loss and weight control with better effect and safety and with less difficulty. the procedure described here involves a VLCD at 600 kCal/24 h with the addition of soy protein, soluble fibre, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, essential fatty acids, moderate exercise and abundant fluid. the procedure described is very flexible and can be used during long periods without risks. Since only fat is lost, there is no risk of an increased tendency to weight gain after the VLCD period, i.e. no yo-yo effect.
