The concept: EQuiP invitational conference

EQuiP's invitational conferences aim at presenting the latest knowledge on quality of primary care/family medicine to a selected audience of the administrators and politicians involved in the European primary sectors.

Therefore, the EQuiP delegates are responsible for inviting a restricted number of participants from each of the member countries of Wonca Europe. The invited are politicians and administrators involved in Quality Improvement (QI) to make sure that the people who may disseminate and implement the ideas and methods presented at the conference in the health care sectors of Europe. Moreover, of course GPs and researchers working in the area presenting material participate.

There is no conference fee—participants and presenters of projects are invited. The Danish Regions, The Danish College (DSAM), The Danish Union of GPs (PLO) and EQuiP support the conference. The conference is free of pharmaceutical and other form of commercial support.

With a maximum of 200 participants, the conference is rather small, supporting a conference atmosphere of networking and discussion between partners with the common interest of QI in General Practice.

‘Value for money in general practice—management and public trust’

In a world in economic crisis, value for money is in focus in every sector of the societies. General practice offers value for money by offering effective care at a low price, especially compared to secondary sector solutions. However, the European primary care sectors are very different and their ways of managing the trust invested by patients and societies varies. Moreover, the task portfolio in general practice is changing—as more tasks are managing chronic care and prevention.

QI requires quality measurement and quality measurement is the basis of rational management of patients’ health and of the transparency that is a necessary basis of the continuous upgrading of the trust between GPs and patients and the primary sectors and the societies at large.

The conference aims at presenting workshops, orals and posters on the following subheadings: Practice accreditation: General practice sector organization, practice size and composition, task spectrum in general practice, practice accreditation, ethics and public trust. Quality organization within the practice: Management of QI, local implementation, work satisfaction of GPs and staff. Implementation in general practice: Research and QI, guideline and indicator development and implementation, teaching QI. The role of general practice in coordination of care: Chronic care, sharing data, collaboration between the sectors. Patient involvement of general practice: Patient evaluation, patient education and quality of the consultation process, shared decision-making. Patient safety in general practice: Patient safety handling in general practice, unintended events, role of decision support in QI. Informatics in general practice: ICPC and coding, quality of the EHJ, e-health and QI—electronic medication, electronic health charts quality of equipment.
