EURACT: EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF TEACHERS IN GENERAL PRACTICE AND FAMILY MEDICINE

(Dutch representative, Euract Council)

Euract @ AMEE and Wonca conferences

Medical teachers and trainers of Europe can rejoice: in the near future Euract will get a special ‘corner’ (timeslot) at the conference of the Academy of Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). AMEE helps you—teachers, doctors, researchers, administrators, curriculum developers, assessors and students—to keep up to date with developments in the rapidly changing world of medical and health care professions education.

The conference, yearly visited by 3000 participants from all over the world is of high standard. AMEE welcomes Euract as a special provider of workshops and lectures from 2013 onwards. Right they are, because general practice in many European countries has a fine tradition of innovations in education. If GP-education is your field of interest, we advocate warmly attendance of AMEE. The next meeting will be in Lyon, France from 25–29 August 2012, http://www.amee.org.

Moreover, also in the Wonca conferences you will find several Euract workshops on different aspects of GP medical education, e.g. the specialty training schemes in the different countries (also exposed on the site), the GP-core curriculum for Basic Medical Education, Educational Research and Faculty Development.

Euract courses

Euract offers interesting courses on medical education. In the next volume, we will tell you about a European faculty development programme with courses at three levels, which equips you for all sorts of education within academic centres and training schemes. The exchange with colleagues from other countries is an extra dimension, which opens new perspectives. The same accounts for the courses on professionalism and assessment. See http://www.euract.eu (chapter Leonardo teacher courses and chapter Activities).

Support of exchange visits

Exchange-visits of teaching staff and trainers are a young branch within Euract. The European young GPs, united in the Vasco da Gama Movement, have already a substantial tradition in exchange visits (the Hippocrates Program; see http://www.vdgm.eu). Euract is very willing to support and stimulate exchange of GP teachers and trainers. Nice examples are the visit of Belgian academic teachers to Denmark, the voyage of Dutch GP-staff to Italy, and Rumanian trainers being coached ‘on the job’ by Dutch GP-trainers. These exchanges are an enrichment for both parties.
