Dear Editor:
We read with great interest the article entitled “Giant Macular Hole in Alport Syndrome” by Shah.Citation1 The authors described the evolution of a giant macular hole in a patient with Alport syndrome, but the article contains an error in ophthalmic terminology.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) refers to optical (light wave) coherence gating to obtain the depth information used for cross-sectional imaging (tomography).Citation2 “Ocular coherence tomography” is not a suitable substitute for “optical coherence tomography.” This similarity has caused these two terms to be used inadvertently in some articles before.Citation3,Citation4,Citation5 We advise editors to check that this term is used correctly.
