Abstract

We surveyed the attitudes of 500 intercollegiate athletes at a large US university about their drug testing experience, and contrasted their responses with 124 others who were not required to participate. We ascertained their perceived reasons for mandatory testing, their arguments both favoring and opposing drug testing, and their opinions about which drug use should be tested. As a group, drug tested athletes were significantly less enthusiastic about drug testing than the comparison group.
