Abstract

The aim of this paper is to highlight some of the salient factors that contribute to the use and misuse of drugs in prison. Environmental, personal and pharmacological factors are evaluated in explaining individual differences in response to incarceration. Relevant to this review are the behaviour management strategies of correctional institutions to control drug use and the implications for treatment interventions.
