Abstract
This paper presents a literature review of the measurement of the concepts of aggression and substance dependence. The related intervening variables of personality disorder, co-morbidity, genetic disposition, gender, ethnicity, locus of control, environmental factors, stress coping styles and support systems suggest a direct, but noncausal, relationship exists between the two concepts. A research based, conceptual model is proposed. Further research is needed to explicate the relationship, develop the model and put it into effective practice.
