This edition of the Journal starts off with a wonderful review of light based therapies for acne. Although prescription based therapy remains the mainstay of acne treatment, there is a strong push toward alternative energy based treatment approaches. This article is timely and is followed by two papers dealing with difficult pigmentary dyschromia. Choi describes a novel approach to the treatment of recalcitrant melasma; On evaluates Q-switched laser treatment of dye induced Riehl's melanosis.
Cutaneous erythema presents itself in many ways. Goo looks at a 595nm/1064nm laser in the treatment of rosacea. Alves studies the treatment of striae with a fractional 1540nm laser. Clementoni finishes this Journal segment looking, once again at striae, with the use of a novel 1565 nm laser.
Carboxytherapy and radiofrequency have both been used for skin rejuvenation. Pinheiro takes a critical look at both of these popular approaches. This paper is followed by a study evaluating a combination of intense pulsed light and Er: YAG laser treatment of congenital nevi. Finally, Yuksel takes a comparative look at platelet collection efficiencies of 3 different PRP approaches. With the increasing popularity of these techniques, such evaluations are critical.
