Abstract
We studied the effect of 50 Hz powerline-treated nutrient on morphological and cytogenetic responses of Vicia faba L. Nutrient samples were exposed to a uniform field of 50 Hz, 51.2 µT (peak) for 48 h. Our study reveals that 50 Hz EM-field-induced nutrient solutions act as mutagens and produce discrete morphological and cytogenetic effects. We believe that powerline field-induced alterations in structural organizations of nutrient water caused these effects by spatially partitioning the ions, complexing the ingredients, interfering with metabolic and physiological pathways, and affecting the synthesis and organization of cytological infrastructures.
