Abstract
The complete mitochondrial genome of whiskered eel goby Taenioides cirratus (Blyth) has been amplified and sequenced in this study. Taenioides cirratus was collected from Tainan City, Taiwan. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,975 base pairs (bp) in total length, had the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, 1 control region (CR) and 1 light-strand replication origin (OL). The overall base composition of T. cirratus is 28.3% for A, 26.9% for T, 29.0% for C, and 15.9% for G, with higher A + T content as bias of 55.2%. This study will be rather beneficial for understanding the phylogenetic approach of the related eel goby genera among gobioids.
