Summary
The authors have used two diuretics belonging to the family of the benzothiazides in order to diminish the urinary calcium loss in 7 cases of idiopathic calciuria, 8 cases of osteoporosis, one case of osteomalacia, and one case of chalk gout. They obtained a mean decrease of 46 per cent of the starting calciuria with polythiazide (Renese) and of 37 per cent with benzothiazide (Fovane). A subjective improvement, consisting principally in a decrease or a disappearance of bone pains, was reported by the patients.
