Summary
In two groups of degenerative joint diseases (88 + 23) as compared to rheumatoid arthritis (40 + 33) and ankylosing spondylitis without subclinical diabetes (41) the hexose and protein contents of plasmamucoid are significantly decreased. The plasmamucoid protein content found in degenerative joint diseases shows a significant rise as compared with the group of inflammatory and degenerative cardiac lesions without clinical arthropathy (31) and with predominance of ischemic heart disease.
The diseases were classified metabolically according to the plasma and erythromucoid constituents. The classification is in agreement with clinical manifestations of these diseases. From the present study follows that in the pathogenesis of degenerative joint diseases the metabolism of carbohydrates and hypoxia should be studied in further investigations.
