Hypothermia and frostbite are potential risks for winter sports enthusiasts, even when temperatures are not considered dangerously low. Signs and symptoms of cold injuries, especially hypothermia, can be subtle, and accurate diagnosis often is difficult. In this article, Drs Kanzenbach and Dexter discuss mechanisms involved in cold injuries as well as diagnosis and appropriate management.
