Abstract

Two new agaric species of Stropharia are described from Araucaria angustifolia (Brazilian pine) forests of southern Brazil. Stropharia agaricoides presents Agaricus-like basidiomes, small basidiospores (5–7 μm long) and pyriform cheilochrysocystidia. Stropharia venusta is characterized by the reddish to pinkish pileus, large basidiospores (12–15 μm long) and subclavate cheiloleptocystidia.

The authors thank the CNPq and CAPES (Brazil) for financial support and to the director of FLONA-SFP for facilities during fieldwork. Dr Gilberto Coelho (Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Brazil) is thanked for kindly providing the Latin diagnosis.
