Abstract
Ten new teleomorphic species, two status novus taxa and two new combinations in the genus Prospodium are established. The following anamorphs, all closely related to the genus Prospodium, also are proposed: the genus Canasta, its two new species and a new combination, three new cominations for the genus Uredo.
We especially thank Dr George B. Cummins, who helped with much of the early work on Prospodium and also for use of some of his line drawings of spores, and the late Dr A. Gentry, who helped identify hosts of some of the specimens. Mario B. Figueiredo (in memoriam), Mary M. Hennen and Philip G. Hennen have helped in many ways. We thank these institutions for aid in the study of herbarium specimens: Instituto Biológico de São Paulo’s Victoria Rossetti Herbarium (IBI), Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro’s Herbarium (RB), Purdue University’s Arthur Herbarium (PUR), Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT), Herbarium Hamburguense (HBG), United States Department of Agriculture, National Fungus Collections (BPI). Financial aid for some of the work came from National Science Foundation (NSF-USA), United States Departament of Agriculture (USDA-USA), Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP, São Paulo, Brazil), Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa Científica e Tecnológica (CNPq, Brazil). Our Institutions: Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (JBRJ), previously Purdue University’s Arthur Herbarium (PUR), and Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) have made it possible to continue this research.
