Summary
Royal jelly has a high nutritional and pharmaceutical value and its demand is continually increasing in today's world market. The determination of the geographical origin of royal jelly is very important both for the producers and the consumers. At present, melissopalynological analysis is the main tool for the determination of the geographical origin of royal jelly. In this study, we microscopically examined royal jelly produced by honey bee colonies fed with different pollen supplements. The results showed that the pollen grains from the supplemental foods can be found in significant quantities in royal jelly, and their abundance might vary according to the size of the pollen grain. Therefore, the use of pollen supplements during royal jelly production can affect the accuracy of the melissopalynological results.
Resumen
La jalea real tiene un alto valor nutricional y farmacéutico y su demanda es cada vez mayor en el mercado mundial actual. La determinación de la procedencia geográfica de la jalea real es muy importante tanto para los productores como para los consumidores. En la actualidad, el análisis melisopalinológico es la herramienta principal para la determinación de la procedencia geográfica de la jalea real. En este estudio, se examinó microscópicamente jalea real producida por colonias alimentadas con diferentes suplementos de polen. Los resultados mostraron que los granos de polen del alimento suplementario se pueden encontrar en cantidades significativas en la jalea real y su abundancia pueden variar de acuerdo con el tamaño del grano de polen. Por lo tanto, el uso de suplementos de polen durante la producción de la jalea real puede afectar a la exactitud de los resultados melisopalinológicos.
