  • The International Task Force for Disease Eradication defined eradication as the reduction of the worldwide incidence of a disease to zero as a result of deliberate efforts, obviating the necessity for further control measures. Elimination of a disease refers to either its reduction to zero in a single country, continent, or other limited geographic area or its control to levels at which it is no longer considered a public health problem.
