The questionnaire was used for a baseline survey in Washington state between 1988 and 1992 for the first phase of a longitudinal field study of the risk factors in the aetiology of child abuse and neglect among a large, diverse sample of pregnant and parenting teenagers. It included questions on family background, pregnancy and parenting history, sexual history (including first intercourse and its context), and behavioural indicators of sexual victimisation, physical maltreatment and neglect. The adapted questionnaire also sought information from young men who had been abused, and included young women who had been abused but who had never been pregnant, as well as those who had.
