AZT trials to reduce perinatal HIV transmission: A debate about science, ethics and resources

  • In that study, women were given oral zidovudine (AZT) five times daily starting in the second trimester of pregnancy through to delivery, and intravenous AZT during labour; AZT syrup was then given to the baby for six weeks.
