It's Not “Just Politics,” America!

Pages 427-430 | Published online: 30 Jan 2008

Notes

  • I do not mean to suggest by my expression of concern that we do not convey the reality of our nation's fundamental principles to young people or that we have ever fully put them into practice. For example, I use the word “forefathers” because that generation—in spite of the strong urging of Abigail Adams to husband John—failed to consider that “all men are created equal” ought to embrace both genders. But the failure to live up to these principles, at any point in our history, should not dull their cutting edge. Indeed, that should only sharpen our sense of their urgency.
