References

  • Dr. Wallich sent me a drawing of one dredged up on board the Bulldog 1860
  • For “No. 27, &c.,” p. 216 Annals 1874 xiv sixth line from bottom, read “42=862 fathoms, Chops of English Channel.”
  • Holtenia Carpenteri has been described and illustrated by Sir Wy. Thomson in the Philosophical Transactions 1869 159 701 701 pt. ii.&c.), who before leaving in the ‘Challenger’ had had similar illustrations lithographed of Hyalonema lusitanicum and Tisiphonia agariciformis; so no description of either of these sponges will be found in my report.
