• Exceptions were first pointed out by Peters Reise nach Mossambique 1882 iii and lately Boulenger (“Note on the Classification of the Ranidæ.” Proc. Zool. Soc. 1888, p. 204) ahs shown that the genera Cassina, Gir., Hylambates, A. Dum., Rappia, Gthr., Megalixalus, Gthr., Rhacophorus, Kuhl, Chiromantis, Peters, Ixalus, Tsch., and Nyctixalus, Bouleng., have a small bone intercalated between the outermost phalange and that which otherwise is the penultimate, so that the fingers are provided with 3, 3 4, 4 (and the toes with 3, 3, 4, 5, 4) phalanges.
