- Major General James Grant who had come down from Sandy Hook with his troops under escort of Commodore Hotham. In announcing the capture of St Lucia he wrote home: “The fleet and army act with the greatest unanimity. 'Tis a pleasure to serve with Admiral Barrington, Commodore Hotham, and the Gentlemen of the Navy in general….”

- 8 December 1775 . 8 December , The vacancy was due to the resignation of Sir Hugh Palliser who had been appointed Lieutenant-General of Marines on and resigned in February 1779 upon the acquittal of Keppel. The vacancy remained unfilled until 26 September 1780 when it was given to Admiral Sir Thomas Pye, Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth, who had acted as President of the court-martial upon Keppel. Upon Pye's death, Barrington got the appointment on 26 January 1786
