  • Mr. Clerk printed 50 copies of his Tactics, which he distributed principally among his professional friends, in January 1782. But the first edition of the Tactics was not printed to the public in general till the year 1793. To that which was printed in 1782, he had made some additional observations on some of the engagements of the American war
  • Mr. Clerk afterwards sent a copy of his Tactics to Earl Howe, which was delivered by his Son Mr. James Clerk
