  • During one run of this reaction, a stopper became dislodged and the unattended reaction proceeded at elevated temperatures, possibly 180–190°, for several hours and gave some biphenyl, a trace of benzophenone and an 80% yield of 1,1-diphenylpentane (4c), bp. 112–118°/ 1 mm, identical with an authentic sample.8
