- Whilst it is easy to state that the drawing up of objectives is a prerequisite for successful diagnostic testing, there are fundamental problems about ensuring the validity of any such specification. One view would be that the objectives should be selected in order to reflect what can be reasonably expected of students of a specified age/ability in a particular subject area. Such a list of objectives would obviously be dependent on the teacher's views (and others) of what students can achieve in the time made available in the school curriculum.
