University of Cape Town LibraryThe University of Cape Town acquired by purchase in 1959 a substantial collection of manuscripts, many in Herschel's hand, dealing with his educational activities at the Cape during the period 1834–40. Originally sold by auction at Sotheby's in London in March 1958, this material is now housed in the Manuscripts and Archives Division, Jagger Library, University of Cape Town.
