Catal. , 140 : 353 An aqueous solution of H2IrCl6.6H2O, prepared by dissolving 2.38 g of H2IrCl6.6H2O in 24 mL of H2O, was added to a beaker containing 8.0 g of SiO2. After the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h, the water solvent was evaporated by stirring the mixture on a hot plate. The resulting solid material was dried in an oven at 110 °C overnight and then transferred to a glass tube and heated in a furnace at 200 °C with a flow of N2 for 2 h to remove most of the water. The sample was first reduced under a H2 flow at 200 °C for 3 h and then at 250 °C for 5 h to give the black Ir-SiO2 (Ir, 10 wt%) powder, Ir/SiO2 was prepared by a procedure similar to that used for the preparation of a SiO2-supported rhodium heterogeneous catalyst
