• The u. v. data shows this material to be a mixture of cis and trans isomers; λmax 248 nm (cis) and λmax 292 nm (trans). After recrystallization, the cis-trans ratio was determined, by glpc. to be 1:3. Repeated recrystallizatians eventually leads to the pure trans isomer, mp 55°
