- CAUTION Many methylhydrazones are unstable and may violently decompose. Distilled oils were kept in a refrigerator, and solids should be used immediately. It is recommended that small amounts of materials be prepared immediately before use. For example, 10 g. of ketone, 10 ml. of methylhydrazine, 30–40 ml. of 95% ethanol, and 2 ml. of glacial acetic acid were heated under reflux for 1 hr. The solids were recrystallized from 95% ethanol, and oils were distilled under reduced pressure
