- 5,6-Dimethoxy-2-tetralone was treated with NaH then with diethyl carbonate according to the procedure in ref. 1. The resulting 1-carbethoxylated 2-tetralone NMR spectrum (CDCl3) showed the following: δ 13.2 (OH); 3.74, 3.80 (s, 6H, OCH3); and a multiplet centered at 2.40 and 2.80 (4H; protons at positions 3 and 4)
