  • The following 1H NMR peaks were diagnostic for the structures: For 3: the spectrum agreed with the data reported in reference 3; for 5: methyls at δ 1.69, 2.02; benzylic methylene at δ 3.34; vinyl protons at δ 4.56 (1H), 4.81–4.84 (2H), 5.15–5.17 (1H); for 7: methylenes at δ 1.43–2.18 (m, 6H); methyl at δ 2.03; methine at δ 3.60–3.68 (1H), vinyls at δ 4.82–4.83, 5.16–5.19, 5.60–5.64, 5.78–5.89, each 1H; for 9: central CH2 in the cyclopentene ring at δ 1.92–1.99; other methylenes in the cyclopentene ring at δ 2.47–2.56 and 2.59–2.67; benzylic methylene at δ 3.41–3.45; vinyl protons at δ 4.94–4.98 (2H), 5.70–5.72 and 5.88–6.04 (1H each); for 10: methyl at δ 1.71; methylenes in the cyclopentene ring as in 9 [1.94–2.03 (2H), 2.46–2.53 (2H), 2.58–2.65 (2H)]; benzylic methylene at δ 3.35; vinyl protons at δ 4.50–4.51, 4.80–4.81 and 5.66–5.68 (1H each); for 12: methyl at δ 2.04–2.05; benzylic methylene at δ 3.55–3.57; vinyl protons at δ 4.86–4.88 (1H), 5.18–5.21 (1H) and 6.25–6.38 (2H)
