Apparently bromination continues in the aqueous medium. However reaction of 2a with one equivalent of Br2 in water was previously reported to afford a mixture of the mono and dibromo compounds along with unreacted 2a.2 It appears that dimethylformamide tends to retard further brominauon of 2b in aqueous media.
