- Since coupling constant for dimethyl acetals (2a-c) is very low (J2,3=2Hz), C(2)-H appears as a broad singlet when 1H NMR spectra were recorded at 90 MHz. However, this singlet becomes a doublet (J2,3=2.2Hz) on scanning the spectrum (e. g. 2b) at 400 MHz. In this case doublet due to C(3)-H changes to doublet of doublet because of coupling with hydroxyl protons
