• Reactions were performed after isolation of (1:1) olefin-β-CD complexes, so as to rule out the possibility of solvomercuration of uncomplexed olefins which amounts to low optical yield as observed in CD mediated reactions. (b) Demercuration was carried out in this biphasic medium in order to minimise β-elimination which is a serious side reaction during reduction of oxymercurials.
