  • Parts of this paper come from early drafts of a book I am currently working on with William Brock entitled The Economics of Muddling Through (Colander and Brock, forthcoming). At this point only I am responsible for the arguments presented here. In the book we discuss the history of the term muddling through. Here, let me just point out that Charles Lindblom (1959) uses the term somewhat differently than we do.
