• Signals due to ethanol solvate were observed in both 1H and 13C spectra. These signals were absent when the sample was recrystallized from a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol. The bridging protons were not observed in 1H NMR spectra due to exchange with residual water from the deuterated solvent. The observation of 10 rather than 11 signals in broadband decoupled 13C NMR spectra is thought to represent coincident positions for a pair of aromatic methine carbons
