- A more obvious mechanism for growth of walls would be by propagation of splay-bend distortion from the end of the wall into the nematic bulk (since nematics transmit torques10b). The prolongation of the splay-bend distortion will focalize new flows which in their turn will enhance the newly created distortion, etc
