The best study of his films is David Bordwell's The Films of Carl-Theodor Dreyer (Berkeley and Los Angeles, 1981). René Allio talks about his work in Jean-Pierre Bertin-Maghit's ‘Trois Cinéastes en quête de l'histoire (Entretien avec René Allio, Frank Cassenti et Bertrand Tavernier),’ La Revue du Cinéma, 352 (July–August 1980) and in Cinéma et réalité by Paolo Zagalia and others (Brussels, 1982). Bertrand Tavernier talks about his work in his interview with Bertin-Maghit and also in Ecran, 36 (May 1975).
