  • The γ− value for the EO moiety when PEO is immersed in water, may be estimated at 80 mJ/m2 which is somewhat higher than the measured value on PEO in the solid (dried) state of 64 mJ/m2.[ 9 , 10 ] Such an increase in γ− of glucose, when dried, is 51.1 mJ/m2, while it increases to 85.6 mJ/m2 when dissolved in water, as could be derived from its (finite) aqueous solubility.[ 18 ] However, with PEO, which is infinitely soluble in water (in its micellar form), its ΔGiwi value, while therefore known to be positive, is not known quantitatively, but its γ− parameter may be extrapolated to a value of about 80 mJ/m2 by analogy with glucose PEO is not believed to have a non-zero γ + value when dissolved in water, so that the γ− parameter of PEO's EO moiety should increase somewhat less upon aqueous dissolution than the γ− parameter of glucose, when dissolved in water .
