  • The RFRH dowels used in this study are easily prepared by classical procedures by addition of a perfluoroalkylated iodide to a terminal olefine, followed by dehydroiodation, according to a ) Tiers G.V.D., J. Org. Chem ., 27 , 2261 ( 1962 ); b) Brace N.O., J. Org. Chem., 37. 2429 (1972). Their structures both in the solid state and in binary mixtures with hydrocarbon liquids have been studied mainly by the group of Rabolt J.F., see for example Russell T.P., Rabolt J.F., Twieg R.J., Siemens R.L., Farmer B.L., Macromolecules, 19,1135–1143 (1986) and references herein .

  • The emulsion's average particle sizes (± 10%) and size distributions were measured on a Horiba Capa 700 particle size analyzer based on light absorption during centrifugal sedimentation .
  • The composition for the PFOB reference emulsion (% w/v) was. PFOB, 90;EYP, 4; NaCl, 0.3; EDTACaNa2, 0.02; NaHP04-Na2P04, 35 mM; a-tocopherol, 0.002; H2O for injection, 47. The composition for the FDC reference emulsion (% w/v) was FDC, 100; EYP, 4.5; NaCl, 0.3; EDTACaNa2, 0.02; NaHPO4-Na2P04, 35 mM; a-tocopherol, 0.002; H2O for injection, 47. These formulation are typical for concentrated injectable fluorocarbon emulsions .
  • The emulsions were prepared by microfluidization (Microflmdizer Model M 110) as described in Krafft M.P., Rolland J.P., Vierling P., Riess J.G., New J. Chem ., 14 , 869 ( 1990 ). They were sterilized in an autoclave (121∘C, 15 min.) and stored at 5, 25 et 40∘C (± 1∘C) in sealed flasks sparged with argon .
