  • For sake of clarity, the same choice of coordinates was adopted for carbido34 and nitrido41 butterfly clusters, so B1B2 in Ref. 41 become B2B1. respectively.
  • The A1(1) mode was not detected.
  • The splitting of several metal-nitrido bands into two or three components was ascribed to the presence of inequivalent molecules in the crystal, rather than to factor-group splitting.41

  • Average dM-MdM-C were used owing the uncertainty on bond distances and the slight deformations of the cluster, provided that the values are within a 5% range, otherwise different plots are reported (e.g., Fe4C clusters). A greater range (±10%) was arbitrarily adopted for the fc values, because of their greater uncertainty.
