Subsequently, in 1991, Hiro Toriumi first reported [Toriumi, H. manuscript submitted to Liquid Crystals in 1991.] the nematic-nematic (N – Nx) phase transition in odd-N dimers of the CBnCB series; personal reasons delayed the manuscript revisions suggested by the referee, and this seminal paper was never published.
