• Even less anticipated is our observation that the methacrylate of F7(CHOH)H8 is also liquid-crystalline and forms what appears by optical microscopy to be a smectic B phase at low temperatures. Details concerning the methacrylates of F7(CHOH)H8 and F9(CHOH)H10 and their polymers will be presented in a future publication
