  • Nitric oxide shows sharp absorption bands in the 1500–2300 Å region.24 Photolysis of nitric oxide in this region has been shown to yield a variety of nitrogen oxides including N2, N2O, and N2O3,24 We have employed in these reactions an aged medium pressure mercury lamp having a maximum energy output in the 3126–10140 Å region.25 Therefore, the nitrogen observed in the reactions of phosphines with nitric oxide does not arise from the photolysis of the nitric oxide molecule
